"Angered by the latest revelations about" Connecticut Gov. John Rowland's (R) "business dealings with a state contractor, the state's three congressional Republicans stepped up their criticism of the governor" with "two of them in terms that sounded close to a call for his resignation," the Hartford Courant reports.
The Los Angeles Times says "the hot seat is getting hotter" for Rowland. Proving the point, the Hartford Courant -- the state's largest newspaper -- called on Rowland to resign yesterday: "He has refused to level with his constituents. He has been forced to admit that he lied about who paid for fixing up his cottage and that his friends and even his employees showered him with such expensive gifts as a hot tub and plush vacations. ... Enough of this gubernatorial nonsense. The way to end this sad spectacle is for the governor to resign"
