Support For Rowland Plummets

A new University of Connecticut poll "found 63 percent of Connecticut residents think" Governor John Rowland (R) should resign. "A similar poll taken last week put the number at 58 percent."

In another sign Rowland is losing support quickly, the AP notes state Republicans are backing impeachment proceedings against the governor.

A Hartford Courant piece notes Connecticut lawmakers "find themselves on the brink of a historic foray into impeachment" but "while the state constitution empowers the legislature to impeach and convict, it is silent on the conduct that warrants such drastic measures."

Update: Rep. Christopher Shays (R-CT) "added his voice Monday to a growing chorus calling" on Rowland to resign, the Hartford Courant reports.
