It's Still Tied

Sen. John Kerry is just one point ahead of Howard Dean, with Rep. Richard Gephardt and Sen. John Edward in hot pursuit, according to the latest Zogby Tracking Poll. However, it's still a four-way statistical tie: Kerry has 23 percent, Dean 22 percent, Gephardt 19 percent and Edwards 18 percent. The margin of error is +/- 4.5 percent.

The Des Moines Register says the candidates' Iowa organizations "will play an even more decisive role than usual in determining the winner of what suddenly has become an extremely close four-way race for the 2004 Democratic caucuses."

In a similar piece, the Washington Post says "canvassers leave no door unknocked in the search for caucus attendees."

Update: Garance Franke-Ruta and Tom Schaller have excellent reports from Iowa.
