New Hampshire Race May Be Tightening

Sen. John Kerry "extends his lead by a point over" Howard Dean, 31 to 22 percent for New Hampshire’s Democratic primary next Tuesday, according to the new Zogby Tracking Poll.

However, based on the most recent night's polling, pollster John Zogby says "Dean’s showing on Friday may suggest that he has bottomed out and may in fact be starting to increase. Kerry’s 26-point performance on Friday is factored into two previous nights of double-digit leads. Another day like this and Dean may be in striking distance again."

Update: The Suffolk University poll shows Kerry extending his lead over Dean (as does the new Gallup poll) and notes Wesley Clark "appears to be dropping off, while John Edwards and Joe Lieberman are too far back to catch Kerry."

The Manchester Union Leader says the primary is now "Kerry's to lose" and the only question is "whether another candidate "will suddenly catch fire in the final hours to challenge him. But no one, at the moment at least, appears up to the task."

Update II: A new Los Angeles Times poll has Kerry leading Dean by a wide margin and notes his "three main rivals" -- Dean, Clark and Edwards -- "are locked in a tight struggle for second place that could shape the race's next stage."
