Bush Holds Slight Edge Over Kerry

A newly-released Democracy Corps Survey shows President Bush leading Sen. John Kerry 50% to 47%. The margin of error was +/- 3.1%.

But one of the most interesting results is how people identified themselves to the pollsters:
  • Strong Democrat -- 24%
  • Weak Democrat -- 13%
  • Independent-lean Democrat -- 11%
  • Independent -- 5%
  • Independent-lean Republican -- 10%
  • Weak Republican -- 12%
  • Strong Republican -- 23%
Now that's a 50-50 country! And it's probably the reason Stan Greenberg, who conducted the poll, recently wrote the book, The Two Americas.

Update: A new Insider Advantage poll also has Bush leading, 46% to 41% with Ralph Nader at 4%.
