Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) leads Rep. Pat Toomey (R-PA) 48% to 42 percent
"among Pennsylvania likely Republican primary voters," according to a new Quinnipiac poll.
"In this latest survey, which includes voters who are leaning toward a candidate, 10 percent of voters say they still are undecided."
The GOP primary is tomorrow. Weather in Philadlephia and Pittsburgh is forecasted to be partly cloudly. Conventional wisdom says high turnout will help Specter.
The Philadelphia Inquirer notes polls "predict that less than a third of registered Republicans will vote in the primary." For Specter, "the last-minute mission is to increase turnout as much as possible - particularly in the Philadelphia area where there are many moderate Republicans who share the senator's views."
Update: Business Week says Specter's nightmare "could be his home base in the Philadelphia area. In the southeastern Pennsylvania suburbs -- a hotbed of moderation -- Specter leads Toomey among all registered Republican, 57% to 24%. Among likely voters, however, Toomey trails by only 4 percentage points, 40% to 44%. Unless Specter identifies and turns out latent supporters, he could lose."
Update II: Survey USA has the primary race tied, but Toomey has the momentum.
