The Republican Senate primary in Pennsylvania looks like a very close race, with Sen. Arlen Specter holding a slight lead over Rep. Pat Toomey with nearly half the vote counted.
Update: If you noticed the results swinging wildly, it might be due to a counting error in Bucks County which "erroneously reported extra votes" for Specter, according to PoliticsPA.com. The race still looks close.
The Corner says the mistake gave Specter an extra 95,000 votes.
Update II: "Sen. Arlen Specter narrowly won the Republican nomination, beating back a surprisingly strong showing by U.S. Rep. Patrick Toomey in a race that underscored the national party's struggle to accommodate both moderates and conservatives," the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Kos notes the result "was a victory for Bush and Santorum, both who pushed hard for Specter. It was also a victory for the Bush campaign's GOTV operation, which enjoyed a test drive on behalf of the incumbent senator."
Specter now takes on Joe Hoeffel in the general election.
