In Blueprint, Mark Gersh makes a compelling case that the "battleground states" of the 2000 election are different this time around:
"Demographic change is probably the least-noticed factor in shaping the battleground. Four years may not seem like a long time, but a lot has happened in a number of the 2000 battleground states that will help one party or the other. In some cases, demographics are driving the political balance of close states in opposite directions. And demographics probably matter more than ever, because small numbers of votes changing could 'flip' so many states."
