Former Virginia governor L. Douglas Wilder "announced plans to return to politics and run for mayor of his native Richmond," the Washington Post reports.
"Wilder's bid is made possible under a restructuring of the city's government that he helped lead and promote. In November, voters approved a change to the city's charter that would allow them, instead of the City Council, to directly elect a mayor."
The Richmond Times-Dispatch says Wilder "is making plans to move to Richmond, register to vote and collect the signatures needed to put his name on the Nov. 2 ballot."
