The effort to replace Alexander Hamilton's image on the $10 bill with that of Ronald Reagan is being opposed by Hamilton's two most prominent biographers, according to Heard on the Hill.
Ron Chernow, author of Alexander Hamilton: "Hamilton was the most influential American who was not president and had a more lasting impact on American society and economy than all but a few presidents." In addition, Hamilton invented "much of American government from scratch" as well as the "enterprise economy that Ronald Reagan came to embody."
Richard Brookhiser, author of Alexander Hamilton, American: "I voted for Reagan for president in three elections (1976, 1980, 1984). I think he was a great man. But Alexander Hamilton is the founder of our prosperity and our national strength. Keep him where he is."
