The $50 Million Democrats

The Boston Phoenix has compiled a list of 12 donors "who chipped in more than $1 million each during the first 18 months of the current campaign cycle —- the start of 2003 through the end of June —- to Democratic-leaning 527s. Collectively, this dozen has donated just over $50 million."

"Thanks largely to their largesse, 527s are, and will continue to be, major players in the 2004 campaign."

Taegan D. Goddard is the founder of Political Wire, one of the earliest and most influential political web sites.

Goddard spent more than a decade as managing director and chief operating officer of a prominent investment firm in New York City. Previously, he was a policy adviser to a U.S. Senator and Governor.

Goddard is also co-author of You Won - Now What? (Scribner, 1998), a political management book hailed by prominent journalists and politicians from both parties.
