Bush Unveils Kinder, Gentler Ads

"The Bush campaign struck a softer tone in its newest batch of commercials, praising the president for 'moving America forward' after months of criticizing rival John Kerry," the AP reports.

"The positive ads are designed to set the stage for Mr. Bush's nominating convention later this month in New York. The commercials suggest that Mr. Bush has a vision for the future although the spots are short on specifics about his second-term agenda."

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal notes "the traditional August calm before a presidential election is beginning to look more like a storm as new ads reflect both the ferocity of the contest and the unexpected financial strength of the Democrats."
