Independent Streak

Former Maine Gov. Angus King, an independent who voted for George W. Bush in 2000, has endorsed Sen. John Kerry. According to the Portland Press Herald, King has not publicly endorsed a presidential candidate in the past quarter century, but this year he says "the case for change is overwhelming."

Meanwhile, another former independent governor, Minnesota's Jesse Ventura, tells the Minneapolis Star Tribune that "he doesn't plan to vote in the upcoming elections," because neither candidate shares his views on important issues.
