Two Strategies Emerge for Final Weeks

The Washington Post notes "a clear difference in approach" as President Bush and Sen. John Kerry "entered their final month of campaigning."

The Bush campaign believes the election "will be determined more by the turnout of each party's faithful" so Bush's "speeches and their settings are largely emotional celebrations of conservatism." In contrast, the Kerry campaign, "figuring the election will be determined as much by centrist 'swing voters,' is making more of an overt appeal to the middle class."

The Los Angeles Times also notes a difference in advertising strategies, finding Bush "has spent far more this year on TV advertisements for national cable channels." By contrast, Kerry "has spent more than Bush recently on ads scripted for local broadcast in particular states."
