President Bush took Ronald Reagan's "heroes in the balcony" to a new level with the parents of the fallen U.S. soldier hugging the Iraqi woman who just voted for the first time. It was very powerful stuff, no matter how scripted.
Andrew Sullivan agrees on the embrace: "Better than any words. Powerful, memorable iconography. Far, far better than the words the president was given tonight."
I do wonder what some of Bush's base thinks about the kiss he gave Sen. Joseph Lieberman as he made his way out the House chamber, however.
