A Discovery Channel special begins to answer that question tonight as the top 100 greatest Americans are unveiled. Over seven shows this summer, viewers "will vote for their #1 choice for the person who has most embodied the American dream, having the biggest impact on the way we think, work and live."

Taegan D. Goddard is the creator of Political Wire, a political column updated around the clock with the most interesting news, buzz and commentary.
