We noted the speculation more than two years ago, but now the AP reports former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld (R) "has had discussions with New York Republican officials about a possible run for governor or the U.S. Senate next year in the state where he has lived since 2000."
New York magazine says "the consensus among political insiders is that Weld, a liberal Republican, would be reluctant to challenge" Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), "since the two are friends, having served together on the temporary staff of the Watergate task force overseen by famed lawyer Richard Ben-Veniste in the seventies."
