Former Sen. John Edwards (D-NC) "is waging a one-man war on poverty that could serve as the springboard for a ëSouthern strategyí presidential campaign in 2008 built on the premise that the Democrat from North Carolina could do better across the South" than Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), according to a Hearst Newspapers report.
"Edwards' far-flung efforts could help position the 52-year-old Democrat as the "stop Hillary" candidate in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008."
