DNC Fundraising Lags

Only one hundred days into "his tenure as the high-energy, higher-decibel chairman of the Democratic Party," Howard Dean is already "in trouble with party moneybags." According to Business Week, Dean "seems to be doing a better job flaying the Republicans than bridging the cash chasm between the parties."

The DNC has fallen behind the GOP in fund-raising in recent months, after achieving money parity in 2004. "Republicans have $26.2 million in the bank" while the Democrats have only $7.2 million. "Dean drew about 20,000 new donors, while his rivals picked up 68,200."

Update: A Political Wire reader points out a post on MyDD that shows Dean "has raised more money in an off year than any DNC Chair in history."
