The Indianapolis Star interviews Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) on his likely White House bid in 2008.
On his message to Democrats: "Look, after a tough political election, a period of introspection is appropriate. But we've had way too much self-doubt, too much denial, too much anger. We've got to get beyond that and be secure in our values, clear in our course, confident in our cause."
On his qualifications: "I spend more than half my time now -- because I'm on both the Armed Services Committee and the Intelligence Committee -- on things like North Korea, Iran, weapons of mass destruction, al-Qaida, all those sorts of things that I think are important, particularly for a Democrat, where the threshold of credibility may be somewhat higher on those kinds of issues."
On lessons from his father: "One thing I've learned from him -- although he hasn't said this to me directly -- is there are a lot worse things that could happen to you in life than losing a presidential election."
