"The Texas grand jury investigating House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's state political organization was completing its term today after demonstrating a recent interest in conspiracy charges that could bring more indictments," the AP reports.
"Lawyers with knowledge of the case said the DeLay defense team was concerned that the Travis County grand jury might consider counts of conspiracy to violate the state election code."
The Austin American Statesman says DeLay's "leadership post is on the line today as a Travis County grand jury is expected to consider indicting DeLay on conspiracy charges."
"An indictment would not force DeLay to resign as a member of Congress, but the GOP's rules would demand that he resign his post as majority leader."
