Billionaire financier Ken Langone "is telling friends that he is looking to raise tens of millions of dollars to finance a long-shot candidate to challenge" Elliot Spitzer (D) in the New York race for governor in 2006, Newsweek reports.
"The candidate in question is Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, a Democrat, who is running for re-election this November. It's a race that, according to recent polls, he is expected to win. But once the Nassau County (on Long Island, N.Y.) election is over, Suozzi has indicated to political supporters that his next target is Spitzer. These supporters say Suozzi is '99 percent' certain that he will be Spitzer's Democratic challenger in the primary next fall."
