Miers Pick Hurt Bush

The American public, "concluding that President Bush values friendship and party loyalty over qualifications in his appointments, is less supportive of Harriet Miers's Supreme Court nomination than the earlier choice of Chief Justice John Roberts," according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.

Good news for the White House: Most surveyed are reserving judgment on Miers. "Some 27% support her confirmation and 21% oppose it, while 51% say they don't know enough to say."

More good news for the White House: The latest Rasmussen Reports survey "finds that 65% believe she is likely to be confirmed. Just 18% say that confirmation is not very likely or not at all likely."

Meanwhile, John Fund writes an interesting piece on how "Miers's nomination resulted from a failed vetting process."
