Libby in the Spotlight

Conventional wisdom says we're all going to know a lot more about Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff Lewis "Scooter" Libby very soon. In case you want a head start, the Wall Street Journal runs a very good profile of him.

"Libby is the most powerful adviser to one of the most powerful vice presidents in U.S. history... In the White House, Mr. Libby's inner-circle cachet is so great that he has been a full participant -- not a stand-in -- at the weekly lunch of the president's top economic advisers held every Wednesday in the private dining room in the White House mess."

Says one former official: "Scooter's a half-step below a cabinet member."

Taegan D. Goddard is the founder of Political Wire, one of the earliest and most influential political web sites.
