Indictment Watch

Though most articles this morning have few new facts, they all pretty much say the same thing: Indictments of White House officials -- most likely Karl Rove and Scooter Libby -- are still expected. The grand jury will meet again Friday, the final day its term expires. Announcements on indictments may come today, tommorrow or both days.

The Wall Street Journal reports the grand jury "is scheduled to meet again Friday, the final day of its term, raising the scenario that Mr. Fitzgerald won't announce charges until then. Alternatively, Mr. Fitzgerald could announce some charges today and the rest tomorrow."

However, the Washington Post is more definitive, saying the grand jury decision will be announced Friday and that Fitzgerald "wrapped up his case," which suggests the grand jury's term will not be extended.

The New York Times adds that "the grand jury deliberations and the special prosecutor's meeting with the judge ratcheted up fears among officials that Mr. Fitzgerald might have obtained an indictment from the grand jury, and was requesting that it be sealed. He could also seek an extension of the grand jury's term, which expires on Friday."

Meanwhile, the Washington Note reports that Fitzgerald "has signed a lease this week for expanded office space," indicating his operation "is expanding."

Update: The New York Daily News speculates "that a plea bargain could be in the works" for Rove.

Update II: Patrick Fitzgerald's spokesman is telling reporters that there will be no announcement today, according to Hotline On Call.
