Matt Stoller, until recently the chief blogger for Jon Corzine's gubernatorial run in New Jersey, has a must-read piece on the future of blogs in political campaigns. He notes that anyone interested in a similar job should know it's "going to be unpleasant, you will lose most of the internal battles in the campaign, and you're going to be second-fiddle to the traditional communications and press operation. But it's worth it, because the internet is now so big that it simply cannot be ignored."
In addition, open media makes politics much more dynamic and more unpredictable. In short, Stoller warns: "Politics is about to become a lot messier, a lot more open, and in all likelihood, a lot bloodier. We're in interesting times now, my friends."
As Crooks and Liars notes, Stoller was on CNN this weekend talking about his experiences. The video clip is worth watching.
