Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) may be running for re-election next year, "but as she wrapped up her three-day tour of Israel on Monday, it became clear that many people here expect her to run for another office," the New York Times reports.
"Her trip to Israel showed some of the advantages a Senate candidate has when she is an incumbent and a Clinton."
However, James Pinkerton says the Iraq war is Clinton's achilles heal. "But formidable as she might be, Clinton has a huge problem: In the course of seeking to position herself as a red-state-winning centrist, she finds herself on the same side of the Iraq war debate as Bush. After all, she voted for the war resolution in 2002, and she has reliably voted for war funding ever since. Yet, during the last three years, support for the war has crumbled."
