"As he considers whether to run for re-election next year," Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) "is also dropping hints about a possible bid for a return to the Senate leadership. Democrats are enjoying the show. Some Republicans are cringing, but others are eyeing Mr. Lott with some appreciation," the New York Times reports.
Lott has dropped hints about retirement and running for a leadership position before, but "he also relishes keeping people guessing. After spending more than half his life in Congress, Mr. Lott, 64, is coy about plans."
Meanwhile, Lott's friends say he will make a decision about his future by year's end.
