Speculation Grows About Card Moving On

The New York Times rehashes rumors that White House chief of staff Andrew Card may soon be appointed Treasury Secretary. "For more than a year now, Republicans close to the White House have said that Mr. Card was interested in the job. But the buzz picked up last week after Mr. Card and Dan Bartlett, the president's counselor, were hit by complaints about Treasury Secretary John W. Snow at a retreat of House and Senate Republican leaders on the Chesapeake Bay."

Card denied the speculation:"Believe me, I have had no interest, no discussion nor any suggestion that I should be secretary of the Treasury."

Interesting fact: "Only Sherman Adams, President Dwight D. Eisenhower's chief of staff, served longer than Mr. Card."
