The CommonCensus Map Project "is redrawing the map of the United States based on your voting, to reveal the boundaries people themselves feel, as opposed to the state and county boundaries drawn by politicians."
A Wall Street Journal story on the project says "the end result disregards state lines -- boundaries that often have little to do with modern lives -- and recasts the U.S. as a land of pseudo city-states that reach across vast suburban, exurban and rural hinterlands."
