Daniels Calls for Another Tax Increase

"Facing fat budget deficits, the Bush administration is preparing a tight 2007 budget that squeezes most domestic programs," the Wall Street Journal's Washington Wire notes. "Flush with cash, state governors across the country are doing the opposite." With an eye toward the fall elections, they're increasing spending and cutting taxes.

Except in Indiana, where for the second time in two years, Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) "used his State of the State speech to call for a tax increase," the Indianapolis Star reports.

Daniels, of course, was President Bush's first budget director in 2001 and spearheaded the massive tax cut plan.
