President Bush "suggested he'll go to war with Congress to preserve the right to eavesdrop on certain phone calls without a warrant," the Wall Street Journal reports.
Said Bush: "There's no doubt in my mind it is legal."
"Congress, which has scheduled hearings on the National Security Agency's controversial program for Feb. 6, and even some in the president's own party have questioned the practice as a possible violation of civil rights. Many Democrats say Congress should pass legislation to govern the practice, though some in the party's leadership say it's foolish to oppose Bush on a subject where he clearly has the upper hand politically."
