Democrats Lead Generic Congressional Ballot

A new George Washington University Battleground poll shows Democrats leading the generic Congressional ballot 46% to 41% among likely voters. When asked who would do a better job solving the nation's problems, 42% say congressional Democrats compared to 33% for Republicans.

Democratic analysis by Celinda Lake: "As dissatisfaction with the President and Republican-led Congress grows, voters are poised to affect sweeping change... Importantly, independent and undecided voters are noticeably negative in their assessments of Bush and the direction of the country."

Republican analysis by Ed Goeas: "The bottom line is that the mood of the electorate is not an anti-incumbent mood, an anti-Democratic or anti-Republican mood, but an anti-Washington mood... Washington is broken and needs to be fixed."
