The Un-Hillary

New York magazine puts Al Gore on the cover with this teaser: "The amazing comeback of the political pariah who might be the one person to stop Clinton in her tracks."

"Goreís statements about 2008 are as precise and elusive as a Basho haiku: Saying that politics is behind him doesnít foreclose the possibility that it might also be in front of him. Whatís clear is that Gore would love to be president, but the thought of the whole awful business of getting there makes him nearly nauseous. Goreís awareness of this conundrum is keen and wrenching. How he resolves it will determine not just the shape of the 2008 campaign but whether the New Gore is the real deal or the Old Gore in disguise."

However, the London Observer has yet another Gore statement indicating he's not running for president. "I don't plan to be a candidate again for national office... I don't see any circumstances that would cause me to change my mind. I was in elective politics for 24 years. I've made four national races, two for president, two for vice president. I have found there are other ways to serve, and I'm enjoying them."

USA Today: "Six years after his agonizing election loss to George W. Bush, the former vice president is basking in the limelight generated by the national release this week of An Inconvenient Truth, an independent film that documents his crusade against global warming."
