DeLay Must Stay on Ballot

A federal judge ruled that Republicans cannot replace former Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX on the ballot for the Texas 22nd Congressional District race, the Houston Chronicle reports. "If the Republicans lose on appeal, DeLay will have to decide whether to campaign for an office from which he already has resigned."

The Democratic nominee is former Rep. Nick Lampson. The Libertarian Party is represented by Bob Smither.

Congress Daily has additional coverage.

Roll Call: "The ruling, sure to be appealed by Republicans, is another victory for Texas Democrats and former Rep. Nick Lampson, the 22nd district Democratic nominee."

The Hill: "This ruling has ignited Democratic hopes that they can win the seat this fall because even if Republicans win on appeal, there are only four months before the election ñ little time to win a legal battle and rally behind a replacement candidate."
