Rick Hasen read the court decision that concluded Rep. Tom DeLay's (R-TX) name could not be removed from the ballot at says "the court's reasoning is sound" and "the opinion is likely to be upheld on appeal."
As a result, Republicans will have porbably just two options for the November election:
1. Encourage DeLay run for office again, which he is considering. However, the Houston Chronicle notes "he may be a reluctant candidate, having once abandoned the race and still facing a serious Democratic challenge."
2. Back a write-in candidate. "Even though the district is a Republican one, it will be hard for Republicans to mount a successful write-in campaign, especially if legal proceedings drag out for a while before the party unites behind a write-in candidate and explains to voters how to cast a write-in ballot."
