Federal Panel Examines New Districting Maps

Check out CQ Politics for an overview of the new congressional district maps submitted by various groups in Texas that would bring the state in compliance with the Supreme Courtís recent ruling.

Key issue: "The federal court must also decide whether a remedial map should be effective for this yearís elections -- as many assume. This is no small matter: Texas held its primary elections in March, so new primaries in the districts affected would be required if the federal court decides the revised map it accepts should be implemented immediately."
