In Georgia tonight, Ralph Reed (R) conceded defeat in Georgiaís Republican primary for lieutenant governor, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. With his defeat to Casey Cagle (R), Reed became the first election casualty in the Jack Abramoff scandal.
"Reed left quickly but stopped to say he was pround of the race he ran. He said he had no plans to run for office again right now."
Hotline On Call analyzes the vote, noting that Reed lost the race in the suburbs of Atlanta.
In the Democratic gubernatorial primary, Mark Taylor claimed victory over Cathy Cox, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Taylor will face Gov. Sonny Perdue (R) in the general election which CQ Politics calls an "uphill race."
Meanwhile, CQ Politics notes that Rep. Cynthia McKinney, "the controversial six-term Democratic representative of Georgiaís 4th Congressional District, narrowly finished first in her primary contest Tuesday -- but failed to amass the majority vote she needed to win renomination outright."
