In Virginia, Two Polls Give Allen a Solid Lead

In Virgnia's U.S. Senate race, two simultaneous Zogby polls of likely voters -- one conducted over the telephone and the other via the Internet -- showed very similar double-digit leads for Sen. George Allen (R-VA) over James Webb (D).

The telephone survey found Allen leading Webb, 47% to 37%. The interactive survey found Allen ahead 52% to 41%.

Says pollster John Zogby: "Jim Webb got a bounce from his primary that raised him up within four or five points, but he has been criticized for not raising enough money, and he cannot win unless he raises a considerable amount of money... The bottom line -- this is a competitive race because this is a competitive state, but Jim Webb has got to start getting some money in."

Update: A new Rasmussen Reports poll shows shows Allen leading Webb, 50% to 39%.
