"Ned Lamont, who this week chastised Senator Joseph I. Lieberman for his public rebuke of President Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal, wrote to Mr. Lieberman at the time praising the eloquence of his speech on the Senate floor," the New York Times reports.
Update: Some Political Wire readers have written to defend Lamont since his letter says he "reluctantly supported" Lieberman's speech and did not specifically "praise" it. While that's technically true, my point in highlighting it is that Lamont's statements earlier this week condemning Lieberman's actions are not at all consistent with how he actually felt in 1998.
That's fine. People do change their minds. Just last year, Lamont gave a campaign contribution to Lieberman and is now running against him.
Update II: The AP has a similar interpretation: "Lamont, who recently denounced Sen. Joe Lieberman for his public scolding of President Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, lauded the senator at the time for his eloquence and moral authority."
