Sen. Barack Obama's (D-IL) "first trip to Iowa on Sunday had all the glow of a presidential campaign visit," the Des Moines Register reports. "Scores from the news media flocked around the freshman Democrat from Illinois as he met the crowd at Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin's annual steak fry in Indianola."
Said the host, Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA): "I really tried to get Bono this weekend. I couldn't get him so I settled for the second-biggest rock star in America today."
"The presence of Obama eclipsed the maneuvering of two prospective Democratic presidential hopefuls, former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner and Iowa's Gov. Tom Vilsack."
The New York Times says Warner "was barely audible from the back of the crowd amid the frenzy over Mr. Obama."
