"Democrats eager to talk up the page scandal swamping the GOP plan to claim that the Republicans are not protecting the children of parents back home," according to U.S. News and World Report.
Said one Democratic strategist: "Look at the E-mails the leadership had as if you were a parent. You wouldn't just want to investigate who sent them; you'd want to kill that person. That's why this is such a big deal."
In short, it's a no brainer. The Hotline elaborates, however, noting "the Democrats' party committees are hitting on all cylinders today. They want candidates in each and every House and Senate race to push the Foley scandal to its hilt."
Meanwhile, The Hotline says the Republican playbook "is fairly simple. They remember how the Democratic Party suffered from the perception that Dems in Congress defended Bill Clinton's conduct. So the first play is to repudiate the conduct and demand that the entire investigative apparatus of the federal government, from the senior-most agents in the FBI to the lowliest computer crime techs at the Secret Service -- rush to investigative Foley."
The biggest problem for the GOP? "This thing won't be wrapped by week's end."
