Year of the Woman?

"If polls hold true, there will be a record number of women in the Senate next year, up from the current all-time high of 14 -- nine Democrats and five Republicans," according to USA Today.

All six female incumbents up for re-election are leading their challengers, according to the most recent polls, and two more women could soon join the Senate if polls in those races are correct:
  • In Minnesota, Amy Klobuchar (D) leads Rep. Mark Kennedy (R-MN)
  • In Missouri, Claire McCaskill (D) narrowly leads Sen. James Talent (R-MO)
Meanwhile, Electoral-Vote.com notes the large number of women running in competitive House races as well.
