Newt Gingrich "emerges as top conservative prospect for Republican 2008 field," according to Washington Wire.
"Ebbing fortunes of Santorum, Allen and Frist leave opening for architect of Republicansí 1994 sweep. Gingrich faults Bush for 'very disturbing' post-election news conference, saying earlier replacement of Rumsfeld might have saved control of the Senate and 10 House seats."
The Atlanta Journal Constitution quotes Gingrich blasting Bush: "It's inappropriate to cleverly come out the day after an election to do something we were told before the election would not be done. I think the timing was exactly backwards and I hope the President will rethink how he engages the American people and how he communicates with candor."
