Dodd Ponders Shake Up

An insider tells Political Wire that as a result of badly missing internal fundraising goals and external expectations, Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-CT) and his inner circle of advisers are angry and disappointed -- mainly at the ramifications of missing the important goal of emerging as the leader of the second tier of Democratic presidential candidates. The campaign's short term strategy was heavily predicated on beating New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson in fundraising during the first quarter.

We're told that Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), a former Dodd chief of staff, and longtime aide Doug Sosnik are both very concerned and urging a senior staff shakeup.

Update: DeLauro emails calling the report "nonsense" and noting "the campaign has $7.5 million on hand and will compete effectively in Iowa and New hampshire and the lead in states -- where he has strong organizations. Dodd remains the candidate to watch and his campaign is first rate."

Update II: Sosnik emails to say, "I have some experience at presidential politics and I believe Senator Dodd is in a very good position at this point in the campaign." He also noted the campaign had $7.5 million cash on hand.
