The conventional wisdom says that Rudy Giuliani and Sen. John McCain dropped out of the Ames Straw Poll because they didn't want to give Mitt Romney a bump months before the Iowa caucuses. Well it turns out Romney may not need the bump.
Marc Ambinder has an internal Romney poll that shows him with a 17 point lead over the rest of the Republican field in Iowa. Romney gets 29% support, followed by Rudy Giuliani at 12%, Fred Thompson at 10% and Sen. John McCain at 9%.
