Huckabee Pulling Away in Iowa

A new Newsweek poll in Iowa shows Mike Huckabee running way ahead of the Republican presidential pack with 39% support, followed by Mitt Romney at 17%, Fred Thompson at 10%, Rudy Giuliani at 9%, and Sen. John McCain at 6%.

Key finding: "Huckabee's religious credibility appears to be a key factor behind his surge. Huckabee has opened up a huge lead among evangelicals... Among all Republican voters who identify themselves as evangelicals, 47% support Huckabee while only 14% back Romney."

On the Democratic side, Sen. Barack Obama leads with 35%, followed by Sen. Hillary Clinton at 29% and John Edwards at 18%.

The poll has a rather large +/- 5 point margin of error.
