"Faced with what his advisers acknowledged was a major test to his candidacy, Sen. Barack Obama sought on Monday to contain the damage from incendiary comments made by his pastor and prepared to address the issue of race more directly than at any other moment of his presidential campaign," the New York Times reports.
The Politico: “A successful address would go a long way toward answering Hillary Rodham Clinton’s complaint that Obama has never shown he can handle the rough-and-tumble nature of modern political combat.”
Obama's speech, titled "Race, Politics, and Unifying our Country," will be at 10:15 ET in Philadelphia.
