Murphy Now Leads By Just 25 Votes

The too-close-to-call special election in NY-20 just got considerably closer, the Albany Times Union reports.

Following a review of votes in Columbia County, Scott Murphy (D) still leads Jim Tedisco (R) -- but only by 25 votes, 77,217 to 77,192. That result peels off 127 votes for Murphy and 93 for Tedisco from last night's results.

"The narrowing of the gap doesn't change the main fact: Thousands of absentee ballots will essentially decide the race -- but not until after April 13."

However, CQ Politics knows at least one of those absentee ballots.

Taegan D. Goddard is the founder of Political Wire, one of the earliest and most influential political web sites.

Goddard spent more than a decade as managing director and chief operating officer of a prominent investment firm in New York City. Previously, he was a policy adviser to a U.S. Senator and Governor.

In addition, Goddard's essays on politics and public policy have appeared in dozens of newspapers across the country, including the Washington Post, USA Today, Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, Philadelphia Inquirer and Christian Science Monitor.

Goddard earned degrees from Vassar College and Harvard University. He lives in New York with his wife and three sons.
