Elections officials in NY-20 will begin opening absentee ballots Wednesday, the Albany Times Union reports.
Jim Tedisco (R) argued the ballots should not be opened until April 14, the day after the deadline for receipt of overseas absentee ballots. However, Scott Murphy (D) prevailed in court saying there is no reason not to start counting the other ballots.
Meanwhile, according to the New York Board of Elections, Tedisco now holds a 97 vote lead over Murphy after Saratoga County completed its recanvassing process. However, the New York Observer has a more recent tally and shows Murphy ahead by 83 votes.
Meanwhile, Nate Silver looks at the data on absentee ballots and concludes "there tend to be a relatively
higher proportion of absentee ballots returned in counties where Murphy
performed well on election night."
